Fan Fare

In a random fluke sighting yesterday, Dreas pointed out the appearance of a Galapagos4 T-shirt in NBA Live 2010. This was found in the XBox360 version of the game and the guy appears in all home crowds. Someone at EA Sports must be a fan. A nice surprise to start off the new year. If you play NBA Live, check for it!

Milestones: On and On

December 31st, 2009 by Offwheezy

2009 has drawn to a close.. but we still haven’t gotten to post all of the “Milestones” entries that we wanted to post. So, as an official disclaimer, the Milestones posts will continue on.

Jeff, Qwel and I have all made our way home from the “Black Rain” Tour in Japan. It wasn’t the first time G4 artists had been to Japan - other artists had ventured before (Maker, Denizen Kane, Mestizo & Mike Gao) - but this tour was still a G4 milestone nonetheless. Pictures from the tour can be found here. Back with more posts in 2010.

Milestones: Midwest Pt 1 - Kansas City

October 14th, 2009 by Offwheezy

Back when Galapagos4 first started going on the road, the first shows we did were all in the Midwest. The earliest I remember is hearing about Qwel and Meaty going to do a show in Louisville. And I was so jealous that they were going to Louisville! But anyway, at that time, the promoters that started getting ahold of us just happened to be in places nearby: Iowa City, Milwaukee, Champaign, and the subject of this post, Kansas City. I don’t know much about KC but I do know that the Galapagos4 fans out there have always been very supportive. Photo credits on this post go to Syke.

Cast Away

September 1st, 2009 by Offwheezy

Last week, Jeff and Qwel recorded a podcast discussing the new Qwel and Maker “So Be It” album. We hope to do more of these in the future (and have them better-organized too). But in the meantime, peep the podcast here:

From now until the end of the year, in continuation with our 10th Anniversary, we’ll be posting up pics from shows past. So, here are some photos scavenged from two important events from 2004: The Chicago Rocks festival at the Metro, and the Typical Cats Civil Service Release Party at Logan Square Auditorium.

Photo credits and much thanks go to Jam One for the Civil Service photos and 800LbGorillas for the Chi-Rocks photos.

It’s Meaty Ogre’s birthday. And we haven’t yet had a chance to plug his latest venture, Grandiose. There is a nice blog entry about the boutique here. Happy B-day, Meats.

The Making of a Site

July 12th, 2009 by Offwheezy

making14

People often ask us for tips on starting or running their own record label, and with the launch of our new website, I figured that sharing the making of the site could be some of the best advice we could offer, to any business. So, here’s the process broken down.

Let me preface first by saying that the version of the site you see now is not meant to be the final version. Our Art Director JASH will eventually take the reigns with a more permanent design. And we will also be adding new features to the site in the future. But what I want to cover is the core, logistical side of things, and I think it’s an interesting way to tell our story.

Cinematic Arts

June 29th, 2009 by Offwheezy

Here we go with some music videos out of the Galapagos4 camp..

Denizen Kane “Holdin’ Up the Wall” directed by Jason Mateo.

Hellsent “Number 9″

Now, if I may interject here for a second - I’d like to point out that those first two videos are songs from the Galapagos4 10th Anniversary CD, released at the 10th Anniversary party in Chicago and a project that came out really, really dope.

..and now, back to the videos..

Robust “El Foto Grande” Visual by Christopher Heubach and Sam Thompson

Mestizo & Mike Gao “Unsecure in Nature” directed by Ace Fillmore

Hellsent “Armageddon”
