Milestones: Chi-Rocks ’04 & Civil Service Release Party

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

From now until the end of the year, in continuation with our 10th Anniversary, we’ll be posting up pics from shows past. So, here are some photos scavenged from two important events from 2004: The Chicago Rocks festival at the Metro, and the Typical Cats Civil Service Release Party at Logan Square Auditorium.

Photo credits and much thanks go to Jam One for the Civil Service photos and 800LbGorillas for the Chi-Rocks photos.

Here we go with some music videos out of the Galapagos4 camp..

Denizen Kane “Holdin’ Up the Wall” directed by Jason Mateo.

Hellsent “Number 9”

Now, if I may interject here for a second – I’d like to point out that those first two videos are songs from the Galapagos4 10th Anniversary CD, released at the 10th Anniversary party in Chicago and a project that came out really, really dope.

..and now, back to the videos..

Robust “El Foto Grande” Visual by Christopher Heubach and Sam Thompson

Mestizo & Mike Gao “Unsecure in Nature” directed by Ace Fillmore

Hellsent “Armageddon”

Since putting up the new website, we realized that we had overlooked an important piece of content from the old Blackbook section – lyrics.

So, here they are again, the few songs that we did have, anyway. They are a little sloppy and ill-formatted, so they may read like excerpts from Charles Bukowski Run With the Hunted or something. But there is no doubt to their relevance. Plus, there is some insightful artist commentary included in Qwel’s portion.

Also, I must warn you that the post itself is really long, so if you are looking for something specific, get your scrolling finger ready.

In the future we hope to put up more lyrics, and organize them alongside the track listings in our Releases section, but that’s just wishful thinking for now.

Read on to access lyrics from:

Qwel – The Rubber Duckie Experiment
Qwel – The Harvest
Qwel – Dark Day
Qwel – Freezer Burner
Mestizo – LifeLikeMovie

G4 10th Anniversary Roundup

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Thank you Chicago for coming out to celebrate with us! We will use this post to collect all of the night’s coverage.

I know that Rift has posted a set of headshots from the evening on Flickr. Our man Verbal has posted some video on YouTube, and you can check for other commentary about the night on our message board. You can also see some pics on my Facebook page. I know there are more photos and videos coming so we’ll keep this post updated regularly.

Here is some video (actually a lot of video) that I got myself. Check the playlist I made on YouTube if you want to watch the videos continuously.
